Subject: FW: Training Coordinator's News and Reminders - August 2016

NEWS:

  • The CON course listings in SATERN are initially only to gather the names of those needing the course. The process started last FY and NSSC identified the courses as “FY16 CON???”.  A “dummy date” was included since we have to input a start date in order to open the course for registration, so September 30th was used to gather course needs during the year.
  • Our FY17 CON classes are in SATERN and open for registration. To locate the individual class in SATERN, search by PROC-CON and the class number (i.e. PROC-CON 360). The dates listed(September 29, 2017) are just ‘dummy dates’ (required in the SATERN system in order to open a course for registration). These are not the actual dates for any FY17 class. Like our FY16 classes, they are open for people to register who need the class and who have completed their prerequisites. No one should register until they have met prerequisites. When enough interest has been generated, a class will be scheduled. If there is not sufficient demand to hold the class in house, HQ will make alternative arrangements for participants to get the training.
  • HQ included CON 370 in SATERN this year just for the purpose of capturing those who need the class. Participants will still need to touch base with their center Training Coordinator before registering. Once approved in SATERN, guidance will be provided to register in FAITAS (for the class HQ is funding) and regarding the pre-course refresher with Bill Roets.

NASA Interns (Pathways) - Interns in other Agency or Center programs and cooperative education programs may register for and take core courses if they are nearing the end of the training program, they have shown a good grasp of the work requirements, and there is a strong likelihood that the individual will be converted to a full-time 1102 position. Detailees from other organizations completing a short-term rotation are not eligible for HQ-sponsored travel to resident classes. Training requires a significant investment of Agency funds; therefore, Centers should use discretion and only register those candidates that will provide a return on that investment.

Training Coordinator’s monthly meeting is cancelled for September due to the end of fiscal year activities.

REMINDERS:

  • As your Center Training Coordinator/Advisor, please contact me with all training questions before you contact the Acquisition Career Managers (ACMs) (Cheryl Robertson and Yolande Harden) at HQ.  HQ has seen an uptick in questions coming from Center employees and asked us to remind the workforce of the process.
  • Please continue to record training NOT captured in SATERN on your CLP tracker.  September 30, 2016 completes year one of the two year CLP reporting period and it’s painful to play catchup at the endJ.
  • The 80-hour CLP reporting period for the 1102 workforce is 10/1/2015- 9/30/2017.
  • The 40-hour CLP reporting period for Contracting Officer Representatives (CORs) is the same.
