SUMMARY:

Located at the Greenbelt campus, Code 177 provides procurement services for Space Science related requirements within the Sciences and Exploration Directorate (Code 600) and the Flight Projects Directorate (Code 400).   Our focus is on making awards related to the study of Astrophysics and Heliophysics.  Acquisitions include: research and development (R&D) studies, science support services, commercial off-the-shelf items, flight science operations and data analyses for ongoing missions, and hardware and software development for flight projects.

ORGANIZATION:

Code 177 is organized under two Procurement Managers, with assignments based on our customer organizations. 

Code 400 Flight Projects supported include:

• 440 - Astrophysics Projects Division, including Physics of the Cosmos (PCOS) Program, Cosmic Origins (COR) Program, and the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) study office.
  
  • 441 - Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Operations
  • 443 - James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)
  • 448 - Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (ROMAN)
• 460 - Explorers and Heliophysics Projects Division (EHPD)
  
  • The Explorers and Heliophysics Projects Division (EHPD) consists of three programs: Explorers, Living With a Star (LWS), and Solar Terrestrial Probes (STP). The Explorers Program is an uncoupled Program which provides frequent flight opportunities for world-class scientific investigations from space within NASA Heliophysics and Astrophysics Space Science goals. Explorers projects are typically implemented in the Principal Investigator (PI) mode. The LWS Program is a loosely coupled Program which provides missions to improve our understanding of how and why the Sun varies, how the Earth and Solar System respond, and how the variability and response affects humanity in Space and on Earth. The STP Program is an uncoupled Program which provides missions to understand the fundamental physics processes from the Sun to Earth, to outer planets, and beyond to the interstellar medium.

• 660 - Astrophysics Science Division
• 670 - Heliophysics Science Division
• 690 - Solar System Exploration Division

Additionally, our office supports entire Code 600 Directorate through our administration of the Space and Earth Science Data Analysis (SESDA) contract and supports the Center's New Opportunities Office (Code 101) by providing guidance on industry partnerships for new space science missions proposals.
