America Recycles Day –Take the Reduce Pledge

November 15, 2009

Between 1960 and 2007 the amount of waste each person created almost doubled from 2.7 to 4.6 pounds per day. The most effective way to stop this trend is by preventing waste in the first place.

In honor of America Recycles Day, pledge to reduce waste for 1 week.

I pledge to reduce the amount of waste I generate between November 15 - 21, 2009.

Please email back to a Wallops Recycling Team representative, Marianne.F.Simko@nasa.gov to have your pledge recorded. Research shows that sharing your goal with someone, makes it more likely that you will follow through. The Wallops Recycling Team would also like to hear about your successes or challenges at the end of the week.

Some ways to reduce waste include:

  1. Not purchasing disposable water bottles 2. Refusing plastic shopping bags
  2. Choosing items with minimal packaging
  3. Selecting mutiple-serving recycleable containers
Information on recycling avenues in your local county can be found at https://code200-external.gsfc.nasa.gov/250-wff/documents#cat9
