Annual Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste (HW) Training

Description: The regulations (40 CFR 262.34(a)(4)) governing generation and disposal of HW require that personnel who handle HW as part of their job receive training that teaches the proper handling methods. These regulations require that all new employees who generate or handle HW receive the training before working in unsupervised positions. Current employees must update their training annually.

Who should attend: Designated and alternate Points-of-Contacts are required to attend one of these sessions. Other personnel in the work area may either attend one of these sessions or attend a follow-up documented session conducted by their Point-of-Contact.

Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP) Training

Description: Wallops Flight Facility has followed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency guidelines for consolidating multiple response plans into one functional emergency response plan or ICP. The ICP requires that all personnel who generate, handle, or store hazardous materials, hazardous waste, or petroleum products, as part of their job, receive training annually that teaches the proper emergency response methods.

Who should attend: All personnel who either generate, handle, or store hazardous materials, hazardous waste, or petroleum products and all emergency responders are required to take this training. For example:

  • Fire Department Personnel
  • Environmental Personnel
  • Scientist/Engineers who work with the above materials
  • Hazardous Materials Shippers
  • Logistics Personnel
  • Facilities Maintenance Personnel (who work with the above materials or assist with a clean-up)
  • Satellite Accumulation Area Points-of-Contact and Alternates
  • ANY other personnel who have more than casual contact with hazardous materials, hazardous waste, or petroleum products

Green Purchasing Training

Description: Executive Order 13423 Strengthening the Federal Environmental, Energy and Transportation Management directs Federal agencies to implement sustainable practices in many areas including the acquisition of green products and services. Green products includes recycled content products (affirmative procurement), energy star products, water efficient products, energy from renewable sources, bio-based products, environmentally preferable products and services, alternative fueled vehicles, products without toxic constituents, and non-ozone depleting substances.

Who should attend: Anyone who purchases or recommends for purchase items which could fit in one of the above categories and has not previously taken this training. Items range from file folders to restroom dividers to penetrating oil to televisions. This training will be almost identical to last years training. There is not an annual requirement to attend this training.
