Dr. Orrin Pilkey Workshop

June 04, 2012

The Chincoteague Natural History Association (CNHA) will be hosting Dr. Orrin Pilkey on June 15 and 16 as he discusses barrier island geomorphology. The program is free and open to all!

On Friday night at 7:00 pm at the Bateman Center, Dr. Pilkey will be presenting a fascinating look at Barrier Islands around the world.

On Saturday, the day will begin when we meet at 9:00 am at the Bateman Center and board the CNHA tour bus for a trip to our present beach. Dr. Pilkey will accompany us on a beach walk as we explore the characteristics of change on our own barrier island environment. Then we will hop back on the bus for a trip up to the northern beach, to compare the two areas.

Following our beach walk, we will return to the Bateman Center around 12:00 noon where a light lunch will be served in the Noah Williams Classroom. After lunch, at 1:00 pm, Dr. Pilkey will present the final portion of his program which will incorporate the aspects of dynamic change found on our own beaches.

All the activities in this two day workshop are free and open to the public. However, we must ask that a reservation be made for the bus tour and lunch portion of the trip. Please call us at (757) 336-3696, so we can put you on the list. You may attend any or all of Dr. Pilkey's presentations.
